Research:

The candidate will join the NMR - Interactions Lipides
Protéines team belonging to the CNRS UMR 6026. The research team area
focuses on structural modifications of peptide or protein interacting
with model membranes such as micelles or liposomes of various lipidic
compositions. The team is responsible of the NMR part of a magnetic
resonance platform of the University of Rennes and is involved in
structural studies of proteins by NMR.

The candidate will contribute to develop the use of molecular
modeling using NMR constraints. Interest and competence in studies in
lipidic environment is welcome.

Enseignement
Le candidat assurera des enseignements de chimie générale et inorganique et de spectroscopies en licence et en master Sciences et Technologies de l'université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines dans le cadre des enseignements généraux et/ou professionnels. Il lui sera également demandé de participer aux enseignements de la première année de préparation au concours des études médicales.
Recherche
La recherche se déroulera dans le groupe de RMN des solides de l'ILV, Tectopsin. Le développement des méthodes de cristallographie par RMN sera appliqué à la détermination structurale de matériaux nanoporeux, plus particulièrement des matériaux hybrides organiques-inorganiques (Metal-Organic Frameworks). Résolution structurale par diffraction, RMN et modélisation sera le thème principal de la recherche développée par le(a) candidat(e).

Postdoctoral position in Paris

*Postdoctoral position opened in Paris for exploring the physics of NMR
in highly polarized liquid samples (18 months).*

A collaborative work is performed by two teams, one at the Ecole Normale
Supérieure and the other one at CEA/Saclay, to study new physical
phenomena related to the non-linear evolution of magnetization observed
in NMR of hyperpolarized liquid samples. For instance, the team in Paris
has achieved NMR time-reversal in liquid polarized 3He in spite of
spin-turbulence [1] while the team in Saclay has studied multiple
chaotic maser emissions in dissolved polarized 129Xe [2]. The main
activity of the recruited researcher will be experimental NMR studies in
these systems, with the help of existing simulation tools to design
sequences and interpret results.

The experiments in Paris are performed at very low magnetic field (2mT)
using a Tecmag Apollo console and dedicated hardware at low temperature
(1K). In Saclay, experiments are performed at 11.7T and room temperature
using a Bruker Avance II spectrometer. The applicants should preferably
be experimental physicists or research engineers with a strong general
background and significant experience in NMR techniques. The position
will primarily be localized at the Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel [3]
(Physics Department of the ENS) in downtown Paris but part of the work
will be performed at CEA's Lab distant from about 40 minutes by ground
transportation from downtown Paris. The preferred starting date lies
between spring and autumn 2009.

post-doc position Marseille HRMAS

A post-doctoral position is available immediately and upon fulfillment in Marseille.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph. D. in methodological NMR, and ease with the implementation of new multidimensional NMR techniques. The candidate will work in collaboration with HPLC and NMR experts on the characterization of solid/liquid interactions via HRMAS-DOSY NMR, with the aim of implementing a new analytical technique for the study of mixtures (see references below). Experience with selective excitation and advanced solvent suppression methodology would be preferred. Knowledge of PFG methods and fast acquisition/processing schemes are also a plus. The position is for 12 months, renewable once.

The research will be performed on a dedicated 400 MHz spectrometer of the last generation, with access to five more spectrometers from the local facility.

Located on the coast in southern France, midway between Italy and Spain, Marseille enjoys a very pleasant natural environment.

The European Institute of Chemistry and Biology, “Institut Européen de
Chimie et Biologie” (IECB) is a recently created research institute
sponsored by the University of Bordeaux, CNRS and INSERM. It is located
on the University of Bordeaux campus in the Southwest of France. The
Institute already hosts 15 research groups working at the interface of
chemistry and biology in a new building (6000 sq meters) with state of
the art equipment and facilities. Several on-site spectrometers include
a liquid/solid 700 MHz, and the arrival of an 800 Mhz spectrometer
predicted for later this year. The scientific policy of the Institute is
under the responsibility of an International Scientific Board which is
responsible for the selection of new group leaders.

IECB is recruiting a PROJECT LEADER within the field of STRUCTURAL
BIOLOGY (CRYSTALLOGRAPHY, NMR)

We seek biochemists working on structure/function relationship of
biological macromolecules or on molecules of biomedical interest in
particular in the field of neurobiology. The candidate will be asked to
apply for start-up funding from ATIP-Avenir Inserm-CNRS programme.

We are looking for motivated young scientists who will demonstrate a
strong potential for the development of an ambitious research programme.
The applicant is expected to run independent and creative projects. They
should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations with other groups of

postdoctoral position Saclay

A postdoctoral position is available in the Structure and Dynamics by Magnetic Resonance Laboratory from Science Matter Division, and the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (LRMN), NeuroSpin, CEA, Saclay, France (http://www-dsv.cea.fr) under the supervision of Patrick Berthault and Luisa Ciobanu. The appointment will be made for a period of 12 months, starting immediately.

The position will be to work on an ANR funded project to perform in vivo laser-polarized 129Xe molecular imaging experiments. In this project, after optical pumping, laser-polarized xenon is encapsulated in cage-molecules functionalized with biological ligands and transported to the receptors of interest where it is imaged. The project involves collaboration with chemists (synthesis of cage-molecules of high affinity for xenon), biochemists (choice of the biological systems and of the ligands) and spectroscopists (handling of the hyperpolarized gas in fast imaging experiments).

The candidate will participate in the installation and optimization of the optical pumping setup designed to deliver high quantities of hyperpolarized xenon. He/she will be in charge of the spectroscopy and imaging experiments on small animals, in close collaboration with all partners. The MR experiments will be implemented on a 7T animal imager.

Applicants must have a doctorate degree in engineering (biomedical or chemical preferred), physics, chemistry, or other relevant discipline. Previous experience in NMR/MRI is desirable.

An opening is available for a post-doctoral fellow in the Biomedical NMR Spectroscopy group within the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Unit at Leiden University Medical Center (The Netherlands). As successful candidate you will be responsible for research in the field of NMR-based metabonomics with strong emphasis on lipidomics. You will contribute to several projects in collaboration with internal and external partners in the fields of endocrinology, cardio vascular disease, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and ageing. Organization
At the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), we are continually seeking to improve the quality of healthcare. The LUMC aims for excellence in patient care, research, teaching, training and continuing education. The Biomedical NMR Spectroscopy group at LUMC conducts research in the field of molecular biomarker discovery, NMR and MS-based metabonomics as well as method development for biomedical NMR spectroscopy with strong emphasis on automation, hyphenation and analysis of complex mixtures. Main focus of the group is on investigation of metabolic pathways and biological functions in health and disease for application in clinical research and diagnostics, as well as in disease prevention, health and nutritional science. A Research Associate post in Biophysics of Antimicrobial Peptides is available in the Pharmaceutical Science Division. The purpose of the job is to undertake research, led by Dr A. J. Mason of the Molecular Biophysics Group, into peptides with potential anti-bacterial and anti-malarial capabilities.

The post holder will employ a combination of biophysical methods including Circular Dichroism and solid-state NMR to study the membrane interactions of synthetic and naturally derived peptides. He or she will also be responsible for the E. coli based expression, purification and reconstitution of human beta defensin peptides.

The applicant needs to have a PhD or equivalent in Biochemisty, Biophysics or a related subject and be familiar with bacterial expression systems and the application of NMR to biological samples. The ability to undertake both spectroscopic measurements and microbiology experiments is essential. The ideal applicant will be someone who, as soon as is reasonably possible, can work independently with initiative based upon experience.

The post is funded for a period of three years. The post is based at the Franklin-Wilkins Building, Waterloo Campus, King's College London. The salary will be on Grade 6 post-doctoral scale, £32,917 to 35,755 per annum inclusive of £2,323 London Allowance per annum.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow to work on an exciting project funded by a NZ Royal Society Marsden grant. The project will focus on the use of solution-state NMR spectroscopy to investigate how protein dynamics facilitates the assembly of a cytokine signaling complex involved in the immune response and inflammation.

Candidates should hold a PhD in biomolecular solution-state NMR spectroscopy. Demonstrated strengths in protein expression and purification and skills in computer data analysis and modeling are desirable. Experience in characterising protein dynamics by NMR spectroscopy would be an advantage.

This is a fixed term full-time position for two years with a start date in mid-2009.

A one-year postdoctoral position is available starting in late
spring/summer 2009 at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology /

hosts diverse and international groups covering a wide range of
