DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate for an NIH-funded post-doctoral position in multi-nuclear musculoskeletal MRI research in the Radiology Department of New York University School of Medicine.
The candidate will join the exiting and expanding Musculoskeletal Imaging Group in the Department of Radiology. The imaging group consists of 11 MSK radiologists. The candidate should have an excellent background in the application of NMR to biological models and understanding of the concepts of NMR physics and experimental NMR techniques. Experience in musculoskeletal MRI applications is an advantage. Our musculoskeletal research focused on the development of novel multinuclear MR methods at high & ultra-fields for assessment of functional integrity of musculoskeletal systems in general and articular cartilage in particular. The candidate will also have access to interact with the other researchers in the Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD) and department of Chemistry who have number of ongoing projects related to arthritis. We are looking for a motivated person with experience in MRI to assist in this research program. There are opportunities to work closely with a dedicated musculoskeletal imaging basic scientist as well as a large group of diverse MR physicists and chemists.
FACILITY:
Our research facility includes several thousand square feet of dedicated research space, two state -of -the-art Siemens 3T Trio MR scanners and a 7T whole body MR system dedicated to research, as well as seven Siemens scanners used for clinical research, and a dedicated cartilage laboratory. A small bore system (9.4T) is also available at Department Chemistry for spectroscopy applications. The orthopedic and Rheumatology departments are among the largest and busiest in the country. The musculoskeletal MRI program is currently undergoing rapid expansion
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have an advanced degree (Ph.D) in Physical Science, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering or related field. The candidate must be familiar with computer operating systems and programming languages, particularly MatLab, C++, etc. Remuneration is competitive and commensurate with experience and will be based on New York University guidelines, Women and Minorities are encouraged to apply.

Signaling via G-protein coupled receptors of high pharmacological importance. Despite its relevance little structural data are available for this class of membrane proteins. The aim of the project is to produce large fragments of GPCRs, and to study their structure but also their folding by NMR.
This ambitious project is very interdisciplinary. It includes techniques from molecular biology for recombinant expression of the membrane protein targets in isotopically enriched form. Good knowledge of biochemical working procedures is highly desired. The second emphasis will be placed on NMR spectroscopy as the primary (but not only) biophysical method to probe these interactions. Suitable candidates should have a diploma in (molecular) biology or (bio)-chemistry or a BSc/MSc in these subjects. Good knowledge in (membrane) protein expression/purification and interest in structural biology possibly with some computing know-how is highly desired. We offer good access to high-field NMR spectrometer (500 and 600 and 700 MHz, all with cryoprobes) and a well-equipped wet-lab during the PhD work. The group has experience in the field of membrane proteins, and is also collaborating with groups in the US.
The salary is based upon the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) salaries and covers approx. three-years of experimental work after which the experimental part of the PhD thesis should have been finished.

Postdoctoral position in Paris
*Postdoctoral position opened in Paris for exploring the physics of NMR
in highly polarized liquid samples (18 months).*
A collaborative work is performed by two teams, one at the Ecole Normale
Supérieure and the other one at CEA/Saclay, to study new physical
phenomena related to the non-linear evolution of magnetization observed
in NMR of hyperpolarized liquid samples. For instance, the team in Paris
has achieved NMR time-reversal in liquid polarized 3He in spite of
spin-turbulence [1] while the team in Saclay has studied multiple
chaotic maser emissions in dissolved polarized 129Xe [2]. The main
activity of the recruited researcher will be experimental NMR studies in
these systems, with the help of existing simulation tools to design
sequences and interpret results.
The experiments in Paris are performed at very low magnetic field (2mT)
using a Tecmag Apollo console and dedicated hardware at low temperature
(1K). In Saclay, experiments are performed at 11.7T and room temperature
using a Bruker Avance II spectrometer. The applicants should preferably
be experimental physicists or research engineers with a strong general
background and significant experience in NMR techniques. The position
will primarily be localized at the Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel [3]
(Physics Department of the ENS) in downtown Paris but part of the work
will be performed at CEA's Lab distant from about 40 minutes by ground
transportation from downtown Paris. The preferred starting date lies
between spring and autumn 2009.

A post-doctoral position is available immediately and upon fulfillment in Marseille.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph. D. in methodological NMR, and ease with the implementation of new multidimensional NMR techniques. The candidate will work in collaboration with HPLC and NMR experts on the characterization of solid/liquid interactions via HRMAS-DOSY NMR, with the aim of implementing a new analytical technique for the study of mixtures (see references below). Experience with selective excitation and advanced solvent suppression methodology would be preferred. Knowledge of PFG methods and fast acquisition/processing schemes are also a plus. The position is for 12 months, renewable once.
The research will be performed on a dedicated 400 MHz spectrometer of the last generation, with access to five more spectrometers from the local facility.
Located on the coast in southern France, midway between Italy and Spain, Marseille enjoys a very pleasant natural environment.

We are looking for motivated young scientists who will demonstrate a
strong potential for the development of an ambitious research programme.
The applicant is expected to run independent and creative projects. They
should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations with other groups of

for the first two years. They will have access to state of the art

This opening concerns a new kind of tenured position designed for outstanding young scientists. The successful candidate will profit of a reduced (-2/3) teaching load and of an increased (+30%) salary for a period of 5 years, renewable once.
The ideal candidate will have excellent records in methodological NMR (development and implementation of multidimensional experiments), to be applied in conjunction with chemometrics for the analysis of complex mixtures, one notable example being metabolomics.

postdoctoral position Saclay
A postdoctoral position is available in the Structure and Dynamics by Magnetic Resonance Laboratory from Science Matter Division, and the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (LRMN), NeuroSpin, CEA, Saclay, France (http://www-dsv.cea.fr) under the supervision of Patrick Berthault and Luisa Ciobanu. The appointment will be made for a period of 12 months, starting immediately.
The position will be to work on an ANR funded project to perform in vivo laser-polarized 129Xe molecular imaging experiments. In this project, after optical pumping, laser-polarized xenon is encapsulated in cage-molecules functionalized with biological ligands and transported to the receptors of interest where it is imaged. The project involves collaboration with chemists (synthesis of cage-molecules of high affinity for xenon), biochemists (choice of the biological systems and of the ligands) and spectroscopists (handling of the hyperpolarized gas in fast imaging experiments).
The candidate will participate in the installation and optimization of the optical pumping setup designed to deliver high quantities of hyperpolarized xenon. He/she will be in charge of the spectroscopy and imaging experiments on small animals, in close collaboration with all partners. The MR experiments will be implemented on a 7T animal imager.
Applicants must have a doctorate degree in engineering (biomedical or chemical preferred), physics, chemistry, or other relevant discipline. Previous experience in NMR/MRI is desirable.
