The School of Biosciences wishes to appoint five Faculty members at any level (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader/Professor) including two new members of the Protein Science Research Group within the areas of:

Structural Biology Ref: STM0154
and
Chemical Biology/Enzymology Ref: STM0155

In addition to integrating with current strengths in protein science, individuals would also be encouraged to engage with the Centre for Molecular Processing (see above). Following a recent £0.5 M award to upgrade our NMR facility by the Wellcome Trust and we are particularly interested in research scientists who can contribute to the use and development of this facility. The upgrade will provide a new console and cryogenic probe for our existing 600 MHz NMR spectrometer.

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST http://www.oist.jp)
invites applications for new faculty positions as it enters a period of growth
in preparation for transition to an international graduate university in 2012.
Approximately 15 faculty positions will be filled during this search. OIST
provides a world-class research environment in newly completed facilities in an
area of distinctive culture, unique ecology, and outstanding natural beauty.

Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to excel in their chosen
area of research, and will be expected to contribute to graduate teaching,
research supervision and other academic activities. Applicants should have a
PhD or equivalent degree, and demonstrate excellence in research.

The initial appointment will be as Principal Investigator (PI) or Independent
New Investigator (INI) for a term of five years. When the transition to a
graduate university is completed in 2012, it is planned that PI and INI
positions will change to a tenure track system with Assistant Professors,
Associate Professors, and Professors. Some appointments will be made on a joint
or part-time basis. Substantial internal funding will be provided to support
the faculty members research, based on a 5-year research plan, which is
renewable after scientific review.

This search is targeted broadly. The non-departmental structure of OIST and
orientation toward interdisciplinary research permits flexibility in appointing
applicants who are able to introduce new research areas or enhance existing
areas. Established research areas include genomics, developmental biology,
mathematical and computational biology, molecular and cell sciences and
neuroscience. New research areas include structural biology, biological
physics, biological chemistry, marine sciences, ecology and evolutionary
biology, and microbial and plant genetics. Applicants with exceptional skills
in the development of novel instrumentation, particularly instruments that will
further revolutionize imaging of bio- and nanosystems, are also encouraged to
apply.

At a time when worldwide support for research is increasingly risk-averse, and
grant funding places an ever-growing burden on faculty, OIST promotes
innovative research in a highly facilitating and supportive environment. This
is achievable because OIST has internal research funding, offers outstanding
central research facilities, and consults faculty on the design of new
laboratory space. Central research facilities at OIST include core facilities
for genomics, rodent vivarium, radioisotope use, electron microscopy, and

Post-doctoral position Schlumberger

Post-doctoral position – NMR Spectroscopist.

High tech industrial research laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts looking for an analytical chemist with a broad background in NMR spectroscopy. Research will focus on developing and applying methods in solid-state NMR spectroscopy to characterize the composition of complex mixtures such as high molecular weight fossil fuels, heavy oils, and kerogen. These materials are important to the development of unconventional hydrocarbon energy resources. This project represents part of a larger effort to characterize these materials by various spectroscopies as well as to understand relationships between composition and the behavior of these materials during production. A postdoctoral research position is available immediately in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University. The goals of the project are to detect and image individual nitroxide electron spin labels affixed to biomolecules and to detect and image small numbers of nuclear spins using magnetic-tipped cantilevers. The work will harness recent breakthroughs in the mechanical detection of magnetic resonance from electron spins [1,2] and nuclear spins [3], and will make particular use of attonewton-sensitivity cantilevers fabricated by our team at the Cornell Nanoscale Science and Technology (nanofabrication) facility [4].

The candidate should have an interest in magnetic resonance and experience in the design and construction of scanned probe microscope (or related) instrumentation, ideally involving high vacuum and cryogenic temperatures. The ideal candidate would also have experience in nanopositioning equipment, digital electronics, lasers, fiber optics, microwave electronics, and radiofrequency electronics.

There is an opening for a postdoctoral position in macromolecular NMR
and structural biology at the Structural Biophysics Laboratory, National
Cancer Institute, Frederick, MD.

A highly motivated individual is sought to conduct studies in NMR, dynamics,
and integrated structural and functional understanding of proteins and complexes
in the ubiquitination pathway. For an example of the type of work please see
Mol. Cell 34(6):674 [2009]. Individuals interested in spectroscopy, new methods, and/or
biological applications with a commitment to a research career are encouraged to apply.

We seek a chemist to develop a research program aiming at exploring biological

We are looking for motivated young scientists who will demonstrate a

programme. The applicants are expected to run independent and creative
projects. They should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations with
other groups of the Institute. Successful candidates will have access
to state of the art facilities in structural biology, chemistry,

In the context of a project funded by European Research Council, several postdoctoral positions are available in the NMR laboratory of the Structural Biology Institute in Grenoble (France). Positions are available on the following topics:

- Development of Isotopic labeling and NMR spectroscopy methods for the study of high molecular weight protein assemblies.

- Real-time NMR investigation of folding and mechanisms of biological NanoMachines.

The laboratory hosts three NMR spectrometers equipped with cryogenic probes (600 MHz and 800 MHz) and with a solid state MAS equipment (600 MHz). It has access to the nearby 1 GHz NMR spectrometer of the European high field NMR centre in Lyon. Applicants will also have access to a fully equipped wetlab for isotopically labeled NMR sample preparation.

Grenoble is a pleasant city situated in the heart of the French alps, and has one of Europe’s most vibrant structural biology communities centred around the European Synchroton Radiation Facility (ESRF), the Laue Langevin Institute (ILL), the Structural Biology Institute (IBS) and the EMBL Grenoble Out-Station.

one-year renewable postdoctoral position

A one-year renewable postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of
Magnetic Resonances (LRM) at CEA/INAC in Grenoble (France) under the
supervision of Dr. M. Bardet.

The candidate will be involved in a joint project with the Advance Battery
Laboratory (LBA) of CEA/LITEN in Grenoble which aims at improving the
understanding of Li-ion battery properties (calendar life, cycle life, shelf
life, etc.) through the use of appropriate solid-state NMR experiments.

The candidate will have the opportunity to strongly interact with
solid-state NMR researchers (Coll. Dr. S. Hediger, Dr. G. De Paëpe). He or
she will be involved in material sample preparation at LBA (Coll. Dr. S.
Patoux, Dr. J. F.Martin) as well as in NMR data interpretation through the
use of DFT calculations (Coll. Dr. J.M. Mouesca).

The candidate will also have the opportunity to complement the NMR data with
the use of other methods (IR, XPS, EIS…) available at INAC and to access the
large scale facilities (ESRF, ILL) in Grenoble.

We are seeking a candidate with strong background in solid state NMR applied
to Li-ion batteries. Prior knowledge in DFT calculations will be highly
appreciated but is not mandatory. Candidates must be fluent in English

As an MR scientist, you will be developing new techniques and algorithms in magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, or functional magnetic resonance imaging. Broad goals of this position are the improvement of image quality, development of new technology that will enhance the MR system performance, clinical performance and efficacy.

Your main responsibilities are:

Qualifications
