Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research
Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Ioannis Vakonakis for studies of
proteins involved in centriole assembly. The successful candidate will
join a multidisciplinary collaboration between Oxford and the groups of
Prof. Pierre Gönczy (EPFL) and Dr. Michel Steinmetz (Paul Scherrer
Institute) in Switzerland. Recently, our joint efforts elucidated the
origins of centriolar 9-fold symmetry (Kitagawa, Vakonakis et
al.,Cell144, 364-375, 2011), a critical step in the centrosomal
duplication process that ensures genome stability in animals. We now
seek to build upon this breakthrough by studying the structure/function
relationship of centriolar components such as SAS-6, SAS-5, SAS-4,
ZYG-1, SPD-2 and others. The successful candidate will contribute to the
analysis of these targets using structural (crystallography, solution
NMR and/or small angle scattering) and biophysical methods.
Applicants should possess/be expected to obtain a PhD in natural
sciences and should have experience in aspects of the structural biology

As a part of the ITN READ European network, it is intended to conduct an extensive study on the development of analytical methods for the analysis of complex mixtures. This will include the study of large chemical libraries, auto-assembling systems, complex protein ligand interactions, and the study of polymers and disordered biological systems. Methods developed will include mostly NMR (1D, 2D, and multinuclear), diffusion measurement by NMR (DOSY) but also other techniques such as SAXS and mass spectrometry.
This is a joined PhD project between NMRTEC and the biomolecular NMR academic laboratory (IGBMC, Dr. Marc André Delsuc).

The project involves extensive industrial collaboration and is funded by the Novel Technology Initiative in Cross-disciplinary Sciences of the EPSRC. The project covers the whole field of DNP research, including the testing of novel radicals, theoretical spin dynamics calculations and the design and construction of novel hardware.
Candidates should have a PhD in physics, physical chemistry or a related
discipline and preferably have experience in one or several of the
following fields: Microwave technology, Cryotechnology, Magnetic
Resonance hardware technology, Laser Optics. Additional expertise in NMR

Diffusional Nanoprobes for Multi-length Scale material Characterisation (DINAMISCH)
In the DINAMISCH project we aim at overcoming the current bottlenecks in non-invasive multi-length scale characterisation during structure formation and degradation in semi-solid matter by diffusional probing using advanced magnetic resonance methods. DINAMISCH is an academic-industrial collaboration between Wageningen University and two industrial partners, SyMO-Chem and Unilever. DINAMISCH is part of the research programme of COAST, the Dutch public-private partnership on Analytical Science and Technology.
We are now searching for a Ph.D. Student (4 years) who will develop and apply novel magnetic resonance methods for probing materials at different length scales (nano/meso/micro). The focus will be on PFG and MRI methodologies for assessment of structure formation/degradation under dynamic conditions. This will also require the joint deployment of novel rheo- and DNP approaches. The student will work closely with a postdoc working on design and manufacturing of diffusional nanoprobes and with industrial researchers at Unilever and SyMO-Chem. The PhD student will be based at the Laboratory of Biophysics, Wageningen University.

An opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow is available in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at McMaster University. The successful candidate will work in the research group of Dr. Goward and the focus of this industry-funded position will be research on development and application of in situ NMR measurements of electrochemical lithium ion cells, with an aim to understand processes in vehicle batteries. This position is intended for a physical chemist interested in moving into a new research area, or for an NMR spectroscopist, interested in using their NMR expertise in this applied field. (knowledge of electrochemistry and material chemistry is also an asset). This research project will involve close collaboration with material scientists, chemists, and mathematicians, as well as research scientists with our Industrial Partners.

Postdoctoral position in solid state NMR
In the Research Group Macromolecular Interactions at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, Germany. We are looking for an open-minded, enthusiastic candidate motivated to employ solid-state NMR spectroscopy to study the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions involved in innate immunity. The project focuses on the recognition of bacterial amyloid-like fibrils by specific host proteins and aims to identify molecular patterns of these fibrils recognized by the innate immune system. The successful candidate will join an interactive, dedicated team using NMR spectroscopy in combination with a wide range of state-of-the-art biophysical and proteinbiochemical techniques to study the structure and function of amyloids and other ordered aggregates in bacterial and viral infections. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with Dr. Barth van Rossum at the FMP in Berlin, and there will be the opportunity to tightly interact with both groups.

An opening exists at the University of Georgia for a postdoctoral associate to work on structural characterization of proteins using advanced NMR techniques. Primary responsibilities reside with our role in the Northeast Structural Genomics Consortium (NESG). These responsibilities involve structure improvement and validation of structures using RDC and RCSA data, as well as the production of a number of biologically relevant protein structures. Our lab also has strong programs in the glycobiology and vesicle trafficking areas, and we anticipate opportunities to be involved with these activities as well. We have excellent NMR instrumentation with a 600 MHz machine dedicated to the NESG project and higher field instruments with cryogenic probes at 800 and 900 MHz.

Academic Requirements: Prospective applicants should possess a degree in Science or Engineering disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry or related fields). A 4 year PhD studentship contract is available in my group starting september 2012 to work on the structural and functional aspects of the recognition of chromatin structure by the ING4 tumor suppressor.

The NMR group at the Centre de Biochimie Structurale (CBS) in Montpellier (France) is looking for a highly motivated researcher to join the team as a post-doc to work for two years on a project funded by the Chaires d’Excellence program of the French Research Funding Agency (ANR). The project, leaded by Pau Bernadó, aims the structural and dynamic characterization of a family of intrinsically disordered proteins linked to neurodegenerative diseases, and to reveal the molecular basis of the aggregation process causing these pathologies. This objective will be achieved by the integration of NMR, SAXS and single-molecule FRET data into novel computational approaches.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in chemistry, biology or physics and experience in solution state biomolecular NMR spectroscopy. Previous experience with protein expression and purification will be considered favourably. Knowledge in other biophysical techniques and computational methods will be favourably evaluated.
The laboratory hosts high-field state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers for biomolecular applications: A 700 MHz and a 500 MHz both equipped with cryoprobes and a 600 MHz. In addition to NMR, the CBS has an outstanding infrastructure covering all techniques for structural biology and biophysics including X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, advanced fluorescent and super-resolution microscopes, single-molecule manipulation, molecular and cell biology, and high-performance computation.

CIC Energigune is now inviting applications for the position of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Platform Manager to custom-build the area´s NMR platform in the field of energy storage technologies.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional capable of taking this unique opportunity with the following requirements:
* An MS degree preferably in Physics or Chemistry. PhD is not compulsory but will be valuable.
* Ideally several years of experience doing research with solid state NMR and also if possible some liquid NMR. More specifically, the candidate should have :
- An experience in multidimensional quadrupole and spin 1/2 solid state NMR is required
- An ability to match/tailor suitable NMR experiments to the scientific inquiries in materials research for energy applications
- The understanding of the pulse sequences and have the ability to modify and/or write them, and
- The skills to use simulation programs of solid state NMR parameters such as SIMPSON or SPINEVOLUTION are also valued
* An open-mind and creativity, willing to work in new experiments such as in-situ NMR of batteries or other energy harvesting, conversion or storage devices
* Inter-personal and communication skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team or to provide supports for other facility users
Applicants should be fluent in English. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Basque will be considered useful but not compulsory.

Job Details
The candidate will be responsible for characterizing protein-ligand interactions and implementing fragment-based approaches by NMR spectroscopy for the identification and optimization of small molecule inhibitors targeting disease-linked pathways. The scientist will be working in the group of Michael Sattler at the Institute of Structural Biology (http://www.helmholtz-muenchen.de/stb) in close collaboration with structural biologists using NMR-spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography for studying protein-ligand interactions. Interactions are expected with the Protein Expression and Purification Facility and the Assay Development and Screening Facility. The scientist should establish NMR-monitored fragment-based screening and support on-going projects in the identification and optimization of small molecule hits and leads using structural biology (NMR and X-ray crystallography). Tasks include:
- Implementing a fragment library and NMR-monitored screening
- Application of NMR based methods for protein-ligand interactions (ligand and target based)
- Hit validation and structural analysis of protein-ligand complexes by NMR and/or X-ray crystallography
- Implementation and development of new methods and techniques
- Interaction and project-driven collaborations with biologists and chemists, e.g. for establishing structure-activity relationships
The candidate is expected to interact and collaborate with researchers at HMGU.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Physics, or related
- Demonstrated strong experience with structural biology and/or structure-based techniques for studying protein-ligand complexes
- Experience with training and supervision of students is desired

We are seeking for potential candidates to apply for a position as a
CNRS junior research associate in conjunction with our group.
The focus of the research will be on developing advanced NMR methods
for the analysis of mixtures of small molecules, with particular
attention to perspective applications to natural products. Our ongoing
activity aims at resolving the complex NMR spectra of multicomponent
mixtures by relying on pseudochromatographic experiments (Angew. Chem.
2006, 45 , 5950-5953), multiple-quantum analysis (Anal. Chem. 2010,
82, 3266-3269 ) and adapted signal processing.
The candidate will be located at the Institut de Chimie des Substances
Naturelles (Gif-sur-Yvette), in the Paris area, which hosts several
high-field spectrometers, including a 950 MHz.
The ideal candidate should have a disposition towards teamwork, an
inquisitive mind and a solid background on the development and application
of modern NMR methodology, with a Ph. D. degree and at least one year
of post-doctoral work in the area.
As the CNRS national competition is highly selective, a strong
publication record is necessary.
