PostDoc Basel

Postdoctoral position in membrane protein structural biology with NMR A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Sebastian Hiller at the Biozentrum of the University Basel. We are studying structure, function and folding of integral membrane proteins and their complexes using solution and solid-state NMR, as well as complementary biophysical methods. Our projects generally address fundamental biological systems of high impact. The postdoctoral research project concerns the structure determination of a membrane protein complex using solution NMR as the main technique. Subsequently, the functioning of the protein complex and its interactions with substrates are characterized. An integral part of our projects is the use and development of state-of-the-art preparative, biochemical and NMR techniques. Interested candidates need a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural or Molecular Biology or related fields. Expertise in at least one of the following areas is mandatory: NMR, protein biochemistry, membrane proteins, molecular biology. The successful candidate is highly motivated, creative and capable of independent research in a team environment. Communication skills in oral and written English are essential. The position and the research projects are long-term funded by the European Research Commission and the Swiss National Science Foundation. PhD/PostDoc Zürich

A PhD and a Postdoc position are available in the group of Oliver Zerbe in Zurich. You will be working on a collaborative and highly interdisciplinary effort to create repeat proteins that serve as binders to extended peptides. Participating groups on the campus are from the field of protein design, crystallography and computational (modelling) sciences. The project has entered its second phase and many highly interesting data have been already derived and much has been achieved already. Both the graduate student as well as the Postdoc will be working in biochemistry (protein expression and purification, in particular protein ligation techniques) and NMR spectroscopy/structure determination. Knowledge in protein structure determination by NMR and good biochemical skills are required for the Postdoc position. Candidates on this very interdisciplinary project will have access to state-of-the-art NMR facilities and biochemistry labs at the University of Zurich. Postdoc NMRFAM

The National Magnetic Resonance Facility at Madison (NMRFAM) has immediate openings for two postdoctoral research associates. (1) Structure determination by hybrid methods (NMR, SAXS, computation) The ideal candidate will be a recent PhD with experience in solution structure determination making use of data from NMR spectroscopy and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). (2) Metabolomics by NMR and MS The ideal candidate will have had extensive experience in LC-MS and NMR spectroscopy with applications to metabolomics. Postdoc FSU

A postdoctoral position is available at Florida State University and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in the group of Rafael Brüschweiler to study the functional dynamics of Arginine Kinase and its interactions with various ligands. This NIH-funded research, which will primarily use solution NMR spectroscopy and computation, is a collaboration with the group of Michael Chapman at OHSU. Postdoc at DKFZ

The Cancer Drug Development group is seeking a postdoctoral NMR specialist to run and maintain two Bruker NMR instruments (400 and 600 MHz). A number of research groups within the DKFZ require these instruments with needs ranging from the complete spectral assignment of natural products and stereochemically complex small molecules to in situ reaction monitoring and kinetic measurements. You will be responsible for designing, performing, and analyzing the experiments necessary for these studies. We would like to expand our capabilities to be able to study the interactions of small molecules with protein targets of interest in the context of drug discovery research.

Your profile:
You are a motivated and creative individual with a PhD or related experience in NMR spectroscopy, including hardware maintenance and upkeep with Bruker instrumentation and software. You are well versed with a variety of multi-dimensional experiments and can use the data thereby obtained to solve the structures of complex unknowns. Experience in studying small-molecule/protein binding is a big plus. Ability to communicate clearly and supervise technical assistants. Postoctoral position in Structural Biology


Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research
Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Ioannis Vakonakis for studies of
proteins involved in centriole assembly. The successful candidate will
join a multidisciplinary collaboration between Oxford and the groups of
Prof. Pierre Gönczy (EPFL) and Dr. Michel Steinmetz (Paul Scherrer
Institute) in Switzerland. Recently, our joint efforts elucidated the
origins of centriolar 9-fold symmetry (Kitagawa, Vakonakis et
al.,Cell144, 364-375, 2011), a critical step in the centrosomal
duplication process that ensures genome stability in animals. We now
seek to build upon this breakthrough by studying the structure/function
relationship of centriolar components such as SAS-6, SAS-5, SAS-4,
ZYG-1, SPD-2 and others. The successful candidate will contribute to the
analysis of these targets using structural (crystallography, solution
NMR and/or small angle scattering) and biophysical methods.

Applicants should possess/be expected to obtain a PhD in natural
sciences and should have experience in aspects of the structural biology
pipeline, for example protein production and purification, NMR
spectroscopy or X-ray crystallography. Past experience with
complementary biophysical techniques (ITC, AUC, CD etc) and biomolecular
interactions is desirable. Previous familiarity with centriolar or
relevant biological systems would be an advantage but is not essential.

This full-time post is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological
Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)for up to three years in the first
instance and is based in the New Biochemistry building, South Parks
