Postdoctoral Research Scientists: Macromolecular Assembly in DNA Repair and HIV Pathogenesis.
Several Postoctoral Research Scientist positions are currently open at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) to work on the structural basis of protein recruitment to large macromolecular complexes. Two separate research projects, one in DNA damage sensing and repair, and another in HIV assembly and restriction, are funded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) respectively. The research efforts will benefit from the state-of-the-art core facilities for structural biology and biophysics at the Department of Biochemistry, strong expertise in virology and DNA repair at the UTHSCSA, and the recently funded drug discovery infrastructure at the Center for Integrative Nano-Medicine and Chemical Biology. The candidates will have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Biophysics/Structural or Molecular Biology, solid training in protein chemistry and expertise in one or more of the following areas: DNA repair, molecular basis of HIV pathogenesis, protein NMR, X-ray crystallography, drug discovery.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is one of the leading biomedical research institutions in Texas with almost $200 million in annual research spending. Successful applicants will join the Department of Biochemistry, one of seven basic research departments at UTHSCSA, that houses 5 of the 11 University-supported Core Facilities. Facilities for structural biology include cryoprobe-equipped 600MHz and 700MHz Bruker spectrometers, Rigaku 007H generator linked to two state-of-the-art detectors, and a robotic system for crystallization screens.
The city of San Antonio is a major tourist attraction in the state of Texas with an animated downtown and a very reasonable cost of living.
