Scientist – NMR Spectroscopist Genentech San Francisco

Scientist – NMR Spectroscopist

RESPONSIBILITIES:
We have an opportunity for a highly talented and motivated NMR spectroscopist to join
the Protein NMR Group at Genentech. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to help develop, lead, and implement NMR-based strategies to support small molecule drug discovery programs, working closely with the Biochemical Pharmacology
and Discovery Chemistry Departments, and participating directly with small molecule project teams to aid the design of new small molecule compounds.
Job responsibilities include protein sample preparation, protein characterization, hands-on NMR data acquisition and analysis, focused on assessing ligand-binding and analyzing the solution structures of proteins or protein/ligand complexes involved in modulating cell-signaling events of therapeutic interest. The protein NMR facility includes dedicated 800, 600, and 500 MHz spectrometers, Linux workstations, and access to the Central California 900 MHz spectrometer. Our NMR group complements protein expression, purification and crystallography efforts within the Structural
Biology Department.

REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D and postdoctoral training in chemistry,
biochemistry or a related biophysics field, with a minimum of five years of technical
experience in areas related to protein NMR, protein biochemistry, and/or NMR in a drug discovery environment. The successful candidate will show evidence of productive, independent contributions in science, as demonstrated by a strong publication record. Knowledge and hands-on expertise in protein expression, purification, NMR sample preparation, and protein NMR spectroscopy is required; experience using automation would be a plus. He/she must also be an excellent problem-solver, have a strong work ethic, and be capable of working independently within a collaborative team setting. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills also required.

Genentech is dedicated to fostering an environment that is inclusive and encourages
