continue and further develop our work in the area of characterisation of biomaterials
to support our food and home and personal care businesses. The position
is within Research, a multidisciplinary group part of Unilever Research &
Development, and is based at Colworth near Bedford. Colworth is one of our six
strategic R&D sites and houses our UK NMR facility.
This particular role will primary involve the development of a variety of advanced
magnetic resonance techniques to study bio-substrates and their transport properties
behaviour to facilitate understanding and manipulation of material-body
interactions. The research will include, among others, studies on the penetration of
molecules into, and their effect on, in vitro skin. The underlying overall objective is to complement, extend and shape our research programme on human skin in vivo.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team interacting
with a wide range of scientists across multiple sites within the R&D organisation
and will also be expected to help to develop overall program directions. The
successful candidate will have a strong research background in nuclear magnetic
resonance ideally with previous experience in NMR imaging of bio-materials either
a PhD or Post Doctoral level. We are offering a one year contract.

By spring 2011, a new 500 MHz system including a high gradient diffusion probe head will be delivered.

A postdoctoral position in biomolecular NMR is available immediately at The
City College of New York (CCNY) located in New York City.
The selected candidate will work on a project that aims to deduce the
structural and dynamics of nick recognition and repair by DNA ligases (J. Mol.
Biol. 2010, 395, 291-308), and will join a group that includes graduate
students, postdoctoral associates and senior scientists.
The group has significant access to the NMR facilities in-house (600 MHz with a
cryoprobe) and to those at the New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC,
500-900 all with cryoprobes). In addition, access to crystallization and
screening facilities (NYSBC) and the X4A, X4C beamlines (NSLS, Brookhaven
National Lab.) will also be available. The NYSBC is situated on the CCNY campus
a few yards from the laboratory and is the largest such center in the United
States.
Potential applicants are expected to have extensive experience in biomolecular
NMR spectroscopy and in the expression, purification and biochemical

A two-year postdoctoral position is available in the NMR group headed by Prof. G. Bodenhausen in "Laboratoire des Biomolécules" in Paris (France), under the supervision of Prof. O. Lequin.
The selected candidate will be involved in a project which aims at analyzing structure-function relationships of homeoproteins. Homeoproteins form a large class of transcription factors characterized by a conserved DNA binding domain called homeodomain. These proteins possess the striking property to be internalized within cells by direct membrane translocation processes which are not yet well understood. Homeoproteins are thus involved in original modes of cell signalling. The work of the selected candidate will mainly focus on studying the structure and interactions of homeodomains in aqueous environments, in membrane environments and in cellular environments. This project is funded by the French Agence Nationale pour la Recherche (ANR grant "PARAHP") and will be carried out in collaboration with biochemists and cell biologists (groups of A. Joliot, A. Prochiantz, L. Venance, CNRS-INSERM-Collège de France).
